ASTRO elects three new board members

The American Society for Radiation Oncology’s membership elected three new officers to the society’s board of directors.

Brian D. Kavanagh, MD, MPH, FASTRO, professor and interim chair of the department of radiation oncology at University of Colorado School of Medicine and attending physician at University of Colorado Hospital, has been named president-elect.

Michael R. Kuettel, MD, PhD, MBA, FASTRO, professor and chair of the department of radiation medicine at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, will serve as health policy council vice chair.

Daniel Low, PhD, professor in radiation oncology and vice chair of medical physics in the department of radiation oncology at University of California, Los Angeles, has been elected science council vice chair.

Their terms will begin Oct. 20.

“They each bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will strengthen ASTRO’s ability to lead our specialty,” Bruce G. Haffty, MD, FASTRO, chair of ASTRO’s board of directors, said in a press release. “As we navigate through the challenging transition to a value-based health care infrastructure, these new leaders will direct ASTRO’s efforts to continue to provide substantive and meaningful dialogue and evidence to ensure the clinical excellence, quality, safety and efficacy of radiation therapy.”
