ASCO’s Conquer Cancer Foundation presented 2015 Clinical Trials Participation Awards to six community oncology practices.

The awards recognize community-based practices for excellence in implementing high-quality clinical trials programs.

“They provide the Conquer Cancer Foundation with an opportunity to recognize the leaders in community oncology practices that contribute greatly to clinical advancements through involvement in cancer research,” W. Charles Penley, MD, FASCO, chair of the Conquer Cancer Foundation board of directors, said in a press release. “We are pleased to recognize these practices for their commitment to scientific innovation, and for their efforts to bring therapeutic breakthroughs to patients within their communities.”

Selection is based on several criteria; however, research sites that have overcome barriers in clinical trial accrual, as well as those that provide care and outreach to underserved populations, receive preference.

Award recipients are Blue Ridge Cancer Care in Roanoke, Virginia; Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois in Decatur, Illinois; Cone Health Cancer Center in Greensboro, North Carolina; Oncology Hematology Care Inc. in Cincinnati; Scottsdale Healthcare in Scottsdale, Arizona; and the division of gynecologic oncology at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix.
