Society of Gynecologic Oncology president begins 1-year term

Robert L. Coleman, MD, recently began his 1-year term as president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and the Foundation for Gynecologic Oncology.
Coleman is vice chair of clinical research, chair in gynecology, and deputy chair in the department of gynecologic oncology and reproductive medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

The society’s newly formed health policy and socioeconomic committee — as well as the task forces created within it, including those dedicated to coding and reimbursement, physician payment reform, legislative and regulatory affairs, and quality, outcomes and policy — will address important quality and payment issues that are specific to the subspecialty of gynecologic oncology, Coleman said.
“I look forward to receiving feedback from these new task forces … because these issues directly impact the care we provide to our patients and how that is valued by the federal government and insurers,” Coleman said in a press release. “As health care practitioners across the country adapt to the changes brought about by the Affordable Care Act, [the society] needs to be the voice of our subspecialty.”
Coleman’s research interests include novel therapeutics for ovarian, uterine and cervical cancer, clinical trial development and statistical design, surgical innovations and graduate education.
