Florida Atlantic University names VP of research

Daniel C. Flynn, MD, has been named vice president of research at Florida Atlantic University.
Flynn, a breast cancer researcher with more than 20 years of experience, was selected from 76 applicants.
“[Florida Atlantic] has very talented faculty that represent cutting-edge research in all its colleges,” Flynn said in a press release. “This is a very exciting opportunity for me personally, and I look forward to helping expand [the institution’s] research portfolio university-wide.”

John Newcomer, MD, who served as the university’s interim vice president of research for the past year, will continue to serve as executive vice-dean of the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine.
Flynn previously served as associate professor for research at the University of Delaware, as well as associate dean for research and economic development at Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Pa.
Flynn also was director of cell biology research and graduate training programs at West Virginia University’s Health Sciences Center, as well as deputy director at the university’s Mary Bab Randolph Cancer Center.
