The Ohio State University made the following announcements related to staff members at The Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center — James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute:

  • John C. Byrd, MD, director of the division of hematology, has been appointed chair of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Leukemia Correlative Science Committee. Byrd, a HemOnc Today Editorial Board member, is the D. Warren Brown chair of leukemia research and associate director of translational research for Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • Jeff Walker, senior executive director of the cancer center, has been elected treasurer of the Association of American Cancer Institutes.

The association, which comprises 93 cancer research centers in the United States, is dedicated to reducing the burden of cancer by enhancing the impact of the nation’s leading academic cancer centers. A key element of AACI’s mission is to assist the centers in keeping pace with the changing landscape in science, technology and health care.

  • Ashley Rosko, MD, assistant professor of hematology, received the NCCN Foundation’s Young Investigator Award. Each grant provides $150,000 in funding over a 2-year period to young investigators from National Comprehensive Cancer Network member institutions.

Rosko’s research project is “NCCN Senior Adult Oncology: Myeloma Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and Biomarkers of Aging Investigation.”
