Meridian appoints medical director for thoracic oncology

Meridian Cancer Care appointed Thomas Lee Bauer II, MD, as its medical director for thoracic oncology.

Bauer will be based at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Bauer served as a thoracic surgeon for 12 years at Helen F. Graham Cancer Center at Christiana Care in Newark, Del. He also served as the center’s chief of thoracic surgery.

Bauer previously held the title of associate professor of surgery at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. His research efforts have focused on treatment of lung and esophageal cancers.

“As an accomplished academic thoracic surgeon, Dr. Bauer will play an important role in expanding our minimally invasive surgery capabilities and overall multidisciplinary approach to lung and esophageal cancer,” Mark J. Krasna, MD, corporate medical director of Meridian Cancer Care, said in a press release. “His expertise in treating lung cancer — the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women — and commitment to clinical trials and research provides the Jersey Shore community with the best health care available for patients with lung cancer.”
