NCI committee appoints chairman

John P. Leonard, MD, has been named chair of the NCI’s Lymphoma Committee.
Leonard will help with the development and execution of phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials funded by NCI. He will direct a team of clinical and translational researchers from community and academic medical centers to establish and implement new standards of treatment, as well as promote the development of novel therapeutics.
“I am honored and deeply humbled to be chosen to lead this vital national effort to improve cancer care,” Leonard said in a press release. “I am excited to continue collaborating with colleagues both here and across the country to move the field forward and improve the effectiveness of therapies that are available for patients.”

Leonard is the associate dean for clinical research at Weill Cornell Medical College and director of the Joint Clinical Trials Office at Weill Cornell and New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He also serves as a professor of hematology and medical oncology, as well as vice chairman for clinical research at Weill Cornell.
