North Shore-LIJ creates VP post

George Raptis, MD, has been appointed vice president of the North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute’s oncology network.

In the newly created position, Raptis will be responsible for identifying and developing new growth opportunities for the institute. He also will lead efforts to develop new models for the delivery of oncology care, physician recruitment and programs.

“Dr. Raptis’ leadership will enable us to further develop and expand our innovative diagnostic and treatment approaches to offer our patients the best cancer care available,” Daniel Budman, MD, co-director of the institute, said in a press release.

Raptis also serves as associate chief of oncology and full-time attending physician in the department of medicine’s division of hematology and oncology at North Shore University Hospital and LIJ Medical Center. A breast cancer specialist, he formerly served as director of the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
