Rakesh K. Jain

Rakesh K. Jain, PhD, received ASCO’s 2012 Science of Oncology Award.

The award, presented at the 2012 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago, honors the contributions of innovative basic and translational scientists in cancer research.

Jain, the A.W. Cook Professor of Tumor Biology and director of the E.L. Steele Lab at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, was recognized for 3 decades of work.

His efforts include the integration of principles from engineering, biology, physiology and oncology. He also uncovered vascular and extravascular barriers to delivery and efficacy of molecular and nano-medicines in tumors.

His prior awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, Humboldt Senior Scientist Award and NCI-Outstanding Investigator Grant.
