I know you have been anxiously awaiting my annual oncology holiday gift idea list...so here it is! --

For the nursing staff:

The symbol for the zodiac sign of Cancer is a crab, so in a subtle homage to their profession as oncology nurses, how about a funky crab ring?

Or this ridiculously cute sea glass pendant with a crab on it?

Or perhaps a painting which reminds us all of what is most important - joy and love.

For physicians:

I have been hearing an awful lot about this so-called biography of cancer called The Emperor of Maladies by Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee

Here is the fascinating story behind the Columbia University oncologist who wrote the book: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/09/books/09mukherjee.html.

I have it on my Amazon wish list, we will see if I get it under the tree. All the reviews I have read have been quite favorable. This may be overly simplistic for oncologists, but I am guessing a lot of our patients are going to be reading it, and having questions about it. Of course, due to the economy being so bad, a lot a charities are suffering as well. Consider making a donation — in someone's honor or memory — to your favorite charity.

Happy holidays!
