BOSTON — In this video, Norah Terrault, MD, MPH, FAASLD, discusses findings from an abstract at The Liver Meeting, which estimated the prevalence of hepatitis C virus infection in the United States between 2017 and 2020.

“The striking thing is that the number of infected individuals in the United States has not gone down compared to the estimate from 2013 to 2016,” Terrault, professor of medicine, chief of gastroenterology and liver diseases, and Neil Kaplowitz Endowed Chair in Liver Diseases Research at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, told Healio.

The findings suggest that new infections are occurring at a faster rate than the cure of individuals with HCV, Terrault noted.
