BOSTON — In this video, John W. Ward, MD, spoke with Healio about two presentations from The Liver Meeting that highlighted ways to overcome health disparities among patients with hepatitis C virus infection.

The first presentation focused on an HCV screening and treatment effort, which launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, for an unhoused veteran population in Los Angeles.

“I thought it was an excellent example of how you can deliver a hepatitis C testing and treatment program to a population that many think are difficult to reach and maybe not receptive to treatment, and that’s just simply not the case,” Ward, director of the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination and professor at Emory University, said.

Another presentation on testing and treatment delivery options for people who inject drugs detailed strategies for “improving the care cascade from testing, linkage to care, receipt of treatment and successful treatment outcomes to achieve a cure,” Ward said.
