In a Healio video exclusive, Ninfa Candela, MD, medical director of U.S. medical affairs in gastroenterology at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, discusses the benefits and avenues of getting involved with industry.

Perspective from

“Transitioning to Takeda has afforded me an opportunity to contribute to patient care on a larger scale with the flexibility of meeting my family needs,” Candela, a pediatric gastroenterologist who transitioned from clinical practice to industry nearly 3 years ago, said. “The advice I would give GIs who want to get more involved with industry and opportunities that might be available to them is to ask a lot of questions of your industry partners. There are so many different opportunities to get involved in industry, whether it's through contributing your thoughts, contributing advice or getting involved in various engagements.”

A bonus, she says, is that switching to a career in industry does not mean physicians have to give up their presence in clinical practice.

Candela discussed her experience transitioning from clinical practice to industry during the inaugural Scrubs and Heels Summit networking event.
