NAPLES, Florida — In this video, Asad Ur Rahman, MD, a gastroenterologist at Cleveland Clinic Florida, spoke with Healio about key takeaways from his 2022 ACG/FGS Spring Symposium presentation on hospitalization in patients with severe IBD.

Rahman highlighted three types of patients — those with acute severe ulcerative colitis, those with penetrating consequences of Crohn’s disease leading to an abscess or a phlegmon, and those who have a bowel obstruction secondary to Crohn’s disease — as well as treatment options for each type.

“It’s very important that we address these clinical patients outside the hospital first in order to avoid hospitalizations in the first place,” he said.
