This award goes to a physician or institution that changed the face of the gastroenterology practice.

The awardee is seen as an example of how patient care can be bettered through changes in administration, technique or the delivery of value-based care.

Neena S. Abraham, MD, MS, seeing the rise of cardiac treatments and appreciating their link to gastrointestinal bleeding, carved out the important niche of cardiogastroenterology.

Her “Abrahamisms” push her GI colleagues to think about the risk-benefit profiles for all patients. Although they are gastroenterologists, she reminds us that the heart is always the winner and GI risks must be mitigated by helping cardiologists make “the best bad choice.”

Truly an innovator in clinical care, many patients have Dr. Abraham to thank for thinking beyond the scope to give them the best outcomes when dealing with cardiac risks.
