VIDEO: ACG looks forward to reconnecting with attendees at annual meeting

In this exclusive video, David A. Greenwald, MD, FACG, from Mount Sinai Hospital and President of the American College of Gastroenterology, discusses the upcoming hybrid ACG Annual Scientific Meeting.
This year the meeting will be held both in-person and virtually, allowing the attendees to decide their preference. Greenwald, director of clinical gastroenterology and endoscopy said a big focus for the meeting this year is renewing connections and creating new ones.
“The most important thing about ACG 2021 will be renewing connections and of course making new ones,” Greenwald said. “COVID-19 has been a year of isolation, certainly a year of fear, but isolation has been a key. The opportunity for all of us to reconnect and come together again is so very important.”
He said many presentations will include new research as well as updates to research in colorectal cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease, liver diseases and pancreatic biliary illness. There also will be information on how COVID-19 impacts the GI tract.
Greenwald added that the annual meeting will include plenary sessions, symposia, video forums, poster sessions, keynote lectures and more.
Keynote lectures will include an analysis on colon polyps by Jerome D. Waye, MD, MACG, and a discussion from Amy S. Oxentenko, MD, FACG, about bringing women into the field of GI. William D. Chey, MD, FACG, will discuss mega trends in GI, Darrell M. Gray, II, MD, MPH, FACG, will discuss changing the narrative in colorectal cancer prevention and Marla C. Dubinsky, MD, will discuss navigating the road to prevention in IBD.
In addition, Thomas R. Frieden, MD, MPH, former CDC director will provide an update on COVID-19 in GI.
Greenwald said the ACG meeting highlights resilience, respect and relationships among GI specialists.
The ACG Virtual Annual Scientific Meeting will be held October 22-27 in Las Vegas.
