Cleveland clinic names colorectal surgeon as new CEO, president of Florida region

The Cleveland Clinic appointed Conor Delaney, MD, PhD, as new CEO and president of Cleveland Clinic Florida region.

As new president and CEO, Delaney will oversee five hospitals, a research center and outpatient centers in five counties in Southeast Florida.

According to the release, Delaney is currently chairman of Cleveland Clinic’s Digestive Disease and Surgery Institute, where he is responsible for colorectal surgery, gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition and general surgery. He has over 30 years of experience in health care as a colorectal surgeon and professor of surgery.

“Dr. Delaney’s accomplishments and leadership experience will further advance our mission and expand our capabilities throughout Florida,” Tom Mihaljevic, MD, Cleveland Clinic CEO and president, said in the release. “He brings a remarkable dedication and commitment to providing the highest level of quality and safe care for our patients.”

Delaney is a member of and serves on administrative committees of many professional societies, serves on the editorial board of eight journals, is the past president of the International Society for Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery, and the Midwest Surgical Association, and is the vice president of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He has given 450 lectures nationally and around the world. Additionally, Delaney published 15 books and 400 manuscripts, reviews and chapters on surgical education, colorectal cancer surgery, laparoscopic surgery, carcinoma of colon, rectum and anus, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, sphincter-saving surgery, re-operative abdominal surgery and colonoscopy.

The interim CEO and president for the Florida region, Joseph Iannotti, MD, PhD, will continue as chief of staff, and chief academic and innovation officer for the Cleveland Clinic Florida region.
