ACG offers reward for safe return of stolen colon

The American College of Gastroenterology is asking for the public to help secure the return of a giant inflatable colon, which was stolen in Kansas City.

The colon, owned by The Colon Cancer Coalition, regularly goes on tour to raise awareness and educate people about colorectal cancer, screening and other gastrointestinal conditions. It was stolen from the bed of a pickup truck last week, according to a press release.

The ACG is offering a $1,000 reward for any tips that lead to the location and return of the colon. The reward will be given in the form of charitable donations split between the Colon Cancer Coalition, Fight Colorectal Cancer, the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable.

The Colon Cancer Coalition started a fundraiser to cover the $4,000 cost it would take to replace the colon, should it not be found.

UPDATE: According to The Colon Cancer Coalition, at donation from the employees of Salix Pharmaceuticals will cover the cost of a new giant inflatable colon. Additionally, Quest Diagnostics made a donation to make up the difference in CCC's ongoing fundraiser. The original colon has still not been found.
