PHILADELPHIA — Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease unveiled its inaugural Disruptive Innovators Awards recipients at the American College of Gastroenterology Annual Scientific Meeting.

The publication honored Disruptive Innovators in seven categories for changing the face of gastroenterology and pushing the status quo toward the betterment of the field.

The Disruptive Innovators were selected by Healio with the assistance of the Peer Perspective Board and the Healio Gastroenterology 200 – a list of gastroenterology and hepatology professionals previously identified as leading innovators across the specialties from inflammatory bowel disease to endoscopy, from hepatitis C virus to esophageal disease.

“We believe the Healio Disruptive Innovators represent the revolutionary mindset of [the meeting’s] host city, Philadelphia, and of Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease, which disrupted our absorption of information,” Edward V. Loftus Jr., MD, Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease Chief Medical Editor, said as he opened the reception.

Here is a list of the Disruptive Innovators recipients:

  • Social Media Influencer: David T. Rubin, MD
  • Woman Disruptor of the Year: Sunanda V. Kane, MD
  • Rising Disruptive Innovator: Austin Chiang, MD, MPH
  • Clinical Innovation: Miguel Regueiro, MD
  • Industry Breakthrough: Boston Scientific, AXIOS Stent and Electocautery Enhanced Delivery System
