VIDEO: Telemedicine enters new age in gastroenterology
ORLANDO — In this exclusive video from the World Congress of Gastroenterology at ACG 2017, ACG Public Relations Committee Chair Jordan J. Karlitz, MD, FACG, discusses how telemedicine is changing gastroenterology.
“There are really a lot of advantages to this,” Karlitz said. “With any new technology, there may be some barriers to implementing this.”
He pointed to the comfort level of physicians and patients along with insurance reimbursement as concerns for practitioners looking at telehealth. But, Karlitz said, this will merely “complement” existing practices, not replace the patient-provider relationship.
“There’s a nice precedent being set for insurance reimbursement for telehealth visits,” he added.
Karlitz referred to GI OnDemand as a platform that may be of interest to patients and providers exploring this option.
