CHICAGO — Healio Gastroenterology staff will provide live coverage from Digestive Disease Week 2017 from Saturday, May 6, through Tuesday, May 9, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

Co-sponsored by AASLD, AGA, ASGE and SSAT, DDW is the largest international scientific conference for gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and GI surgery, with more than 5,000 abstracts and hundreds of lectures being presented this year.

Some of the latest research highlighted at this year’s meeting will include “how to screen for patients who may or may not respond to direct-acting antiviral medications, technologies for colonoscopies, medications to help gluten-sensitive individuals be more comfortable eating at a restaurant with friends, and comparisons of three types of weight loss treatments,” Grace Elta, MD, chair of the Digestive Disease Week council, said during a press conference.

Notable research will also be presented at the AGA Presidential Plenary, moderated by AGA President Timothy C. Wang, MD, including lectures on new developments in celiac disease given by Sheila Crowe, MD, from University of California San Diego Health, and on how to navigate the complex treatment landscape in inflammatory bowel disease, given by Healio Gastroenterology’s chief medical editor Edward V. Loftus, Jr., MD, from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

In addition, William J. Sandborn, MD, of University of California San Diego, and Brian G. Feagan, MD, of Robarts Clinical trials in Ontario, Canada, will present data on investigational therapies for Crohn’s disease during the late-breaking abstract plenary.

Healio Gastroenterology staff will report live on breaking news presented at the meeting and capture video interviews with experts to gain their perspectives on important presentations. Visit Healio.com/GI and follow @HealioGastro on Twitter for the latest news emerging from DDW 2017.
