Those attending the 2016 Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America’s Advances in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Clinical and Research Conference will gain insight into the latest developments in the therapeutic management of patients with IBD from more than 60 global experts in the field.

“This year’s AIBD provides a ‘soup to nuts’ update on IBD comprising state of the art lectures on evolving therapeutic approaches including new algorithms for medical therapy, applying new therapies into clinical practice, therapeutic monitoring, biologic and biosimilars, and evolving surgical approaches for complex patients will be presented along with case-discussions,” AIBD co-chair Stephen B. Hanauer, MD, AGAF, FACG, professor of Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, told Healio Gastroenterology. “Adult and pediatric gastroenterologists, colorectal surgeons, and advanced practice nurses will engage in a broad range of didactic and interactive sessions.”

Endorsed by the ACG, AGA, LASPGHAN and NASPGHAN, this year’s AIBD is expected to bring an estimated 2,400 participants to the Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, Fla., from Dec. 8 to 10 to learn about the latest scientific and clinical developments in IBD.

Attendees will have access to 3 days of scientific sessions, case discussions, clinical symposia, workshops, a “meet the experts” series, poster presentations and CME activities based on clinical, basic science, pediatrics and nursing tracks.

The conference is organized and certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits by Imedex, and — for the first time — for ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation) contact hours by American Academy of CME, Inc.

AIBD 2016 also welcomes 15 new faculty members who will lead sessions at this year’s conference, according to meeting co-chair Richard P. MacDermott, MD, Emeritus Professor of Medicine at Albany Medical Center in New York.

“They are a great addition to the already outstanding faculty we have in place,” he said in a press release. “In just two and half days, we cover all the important aspects of basic and advanced care for IBD patients, as well as recent discoveries in cutting edge clinical research.”

Ananthakrishnan, MBBS, MD, MPH, from Massachusetts General Hospital, who will deliver a talk on the roles of environmental factors in the pathogenesis of IBD on Saturday.

Other meeting highlights include talks on emerging therapeutic approaches from leading IBD experts like Bruce E. Sands, MD, MS, and Jean-Frédéric Colombel, MD, from Mount Sinai in New York, Brain Feagan, MD, from Robarts Research Institute, University of Western Ontario, and William J. Sandborn, MD, from UC San Diego. The Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Scientific Achievement Awards will also be presented to honor outstanding IBD researchers on Friday.
