The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program has newly recognized 18 endoscopy units for their commitment to patient safety and procedural quality, and has also renewed recognition for 18 previously honored units, according to a press release.
“We are proud to acknowledge these endoscopy units for their commitment to promoting the highest standards of safety and quality,” Glenn Eisen, MD, FASGE, chair of the ASGE Quality Assurance in Endoscopy Committee, said in the press release. “By ensuring infection control principles are adhered to, the competency of staff is continually assessed, and patient satisfaction is monitored, ASGE-recognized units address the cornerstones that inspire the public’s confidence in endoscopy, a life-saving technology.”

To date, more than 500 endoscopy units have been honored for meeting the program’s rigorous criteria, including adherence to “ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscopic reprocessing, CDC infection control guidelines and ensuring endoscopy staff competency.”
Recognized units must go through a peer-reviewed application process, demonstrating continued staff competence, adoption of ongoing performance assessment policies driven by key quality indicators, and infection control and prevention infrastructure. Units must also complete the “Improving Quality and Safety in Your Endoscopy Unit” educational course, which reviews related guidelines and awards successful participants with the 3-year renewable ASGE Certificate of Recognition of Quality in Endoscopy.
The program course will be repeated this year on November 18, in Downer’s Grove, Ill., according to the press release. All office-based, hospital-based and stand-alone ambulatory endoscopy units in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands are eligible.
