SAN DIEGO — In this exclusive video from DDW 2016, Lauren B. Gerson, MD, from California Pacific Medical Center and University of California San Francisco, discusses the results of a meta-analysis that showed transoral incisionless fundoplication, or TIF, is an effective treatment for GERD.

“We looked at 6-month follow-up times and there was ... a very beneficial effect on health-related quality of life for patients ... after the procedure,” Gerson said. “We also showed that in about 70% of cases patients were able to discontinue their proton pump inhibitor therapy completely, and remain off medication. ... In general, our study showed that the TIF procedure is effective in terms of improving patients’ quality of life and helping them get off medications that are used for chronic GERD.”
