Honolulu — Beginning Monday, Oct. 19, Healio Gastroenterology will provide live coverage from the American College of Gastroenterology’s 2015 Annual Scientific Meeting at the Hawaii Convention Center.

The conference features a well-rounded curriculum produced by an esteemed planning committee, led by ACG President Stephen B. Hanauer, MD, and Chair of the ACG Educational Affairs Committee John R. Saltzman, MD, FACG, and includes presentations from established experts and rising stars in the fields of gastroenterology and hepatology, including featured lecturers William D. Chey, MD, FACG; Brennan M. R. Spiegel, MD, MSHS, FACG; David A. Johnson, MD, MACG; Irving M. Pike, MD, FACG and Ikuo Hirano, MD, FACG.

The ACG Annual Meeting is thought by many to be “the preeminent meeting in gastroenterology for clinicians presenting clinical information and what’s new in the field,” Saltzman said in a press briefing. “This has been a record breaking year for scientific submissions to the ACG. This year there were 22,524 presentations submitted and of that there will be 2,097 poster presentations. Additionally, there are going to be approximately 65 oral presentations.”

In a separate press briefing, Jordan J. Karlitz, MD, of Tulane University and ACG Public Relations Committee Chair, highlighted several important topics that will be discussed at the meeting, including fecal microbiota transplantation for Clostridium difficile infection, constipation, obesity and metabolic syndrome. “All three topics are at the forefront of current GI research and are integral to the care of patients on a daily level, and hence should be of interest to a wide range of meeting attendees,” he said.

The 3-day Scientific Meeting follows the 2-day Postgraduate Course, from which Healio Gastroenterology’s featured blogger, Austin Chiang, MD, a GI fellow from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, will share daily highlights as he attends sessions during the course and the scientific meeting.

Healio Gastroenterology staff will report live on breaking news presented at the meeting and capture video interviews with experts to gain their perspectives on important presentations. Readers also can expect newswires featuring the conference’s top headlines. Visit Healio.com/GI throughout the week to read the latest news emerging from ACG 2015.
