ACG elects Sarles president
SAN DIEGO — American College of Gastroenterology 2013-2014 president Harry Eugene Sarles Jr., MD, officially assumed his position at the ACG Annual Scientific Meeting.
Sarles will be responsible for directing the organization’s programs, including issuing policies on medical affairs on a nationwide and state level, clinical investigation and managed care, and also clinical, patient-related and scientific CME in gastroenterology. According to a press release, Sarles is a private practice gastroenterologist at Digestive Health Associates of Texas in Dallas, and also chief of staff at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Rockwall.

Since becoming an ACG fellow in 1993, Sarles has served as vice president (2011-2012), treasurer (2010-2011) and secretary (2009-2010). He also has been a member of several ACG committees and chairman of the Board of Governors (2002-2004), as well as of the Finance (2010-2012) and Practice Management (2000-2002) committees. Sarles served as an ACG trustee from 2004-2006, 2006-2008 and in 2009.
“My experiences as a long-time member have helped me prepare for leading this wonderful organization that I view as the champion for all clinical gastroenterologists,” Sarles said in the release. “The college places quality as a top priority in the field of gastroenterology, and I want to promote, protect and preserve our profession and inspire others to get involved and take on leadership roles in the college.”
