SAN ANTONIO — In this Healio video exclusive, Jamy D. Ard, MD, FTOS, provided a 1-year update on The Obesity Society’s multisociety initiative to develop Standards of Care for obesity.
As Healio previously reported, The Obesity Society chaired an international steering committee to develop new Standards of Care for obesity medicine.
Ard, who is professor in the departments of epidemiology and prevention and internal medicine and vice dean for clinical research at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and president of The Obesity Society, said the first “chapters” of the new Standards of Care for obesity medicine are planned to be published in 2025.
“We will talk about topics like the best wrap-around nutrition for people who are taking a GLP-1; we’ll talk about telehealth and options for telehealth; we’ll talk about pharmacotherapy and starting choice ... We’re going to cover topics in surgery and combination therapy, medical plus surgical treatment,” he said. “There are a lot of things we’re going to cover and the chapters are going to come out over the course of the year, as we continue to do the work.”
