SAN ANTONIO — In this Healio video exclusive from ObesityWeek, Fatima Cody Stanford, MD, MPH, MPA, MBA, MACP, FAAP, FAHA, FTOS, discusses equitable access to obesity care and treatments in the U.S.

“Year after year we get a chance to see those famous CDC maps, which look at the proportion of the community that are impacted by obesity. What we see in those maps are that specific communities are more impacted than others,” Stanford, obesity medicine physician scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital, associate professor of medicine and pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and a member of the Healio | Endocrine Today Editorial Board, said. “We see non-Hispanic Black communities, those from the Latina/Latino communities and we see those that are native or indigenous to this country that are disproportionately impacted by obesity.”

Stanford discussed how obesity treatments are not fully available to these patient populations and why it is important to improve inequities to ensure equitable care for all.
