SANTA FE, N.M. — In this video exclusive, Jacques P. Brown, MD, discusses clinical applications of bone turnover markers in managing osteoporosis.
Brown is a rheumatologist, a clinical researcher at the Centre de recherche du CHU de Québec-Laval University and clinical professor in the department of medicine at Laval University in Québec, Canada.
Bone turnover markers can help to assess rates of bone resorption and bone formation. Clinically, these markers can replace serial bone mineral density measures for monitoring osteoporosis therapy, according to Brown, who spoke on the topic at the Santa Fe Bone Symposium in August.
Brown describes situations in which use of bone turnover markers is or is not appropriate.
