SAN DIEGO — In this video exclusive, Dana Lewis, a founder of OpenAPS, discusses how open-source, automated, closed-loop insulin delivery systems can benefit people living with type 1 diabetes.
Lewis said DIY systems are easy to use and can quickly help users achieve good time in range and quality of life improvements. She describes recent innovations in DIY systems.
“Oftentimes DIY is ahead of commercial systems by many years,” Lewis told Healio.
“Providers should be aware of these open-source, closed-loop systems and be aware that there is a solid body of scientific evidence. There’s now multiple randomized controlled trials showing that these systems are safe and effective for kids and adults,” she said.
