Boston Children’s Hospital and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center have both been named co-No. 1 hospitals for pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, according to the U.S. News & World Report.

The U.S. News & World Report released its 2023-2024 ranking of the best children’s hospitals in the U.S. on Wednesday. Changes to this year’s ranking methodology included less of an emphasis on expert opinion and a greater emphasis on commitment to best practices and equity, diversity and inclusion.

“Parents of sick children face many difficult challenges, including how to identify the best children’s hospital to treat their illness or condition,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News & World Report, said in a press release. “The rankings, which are increasingly determined by objective measures of hospital quality, can help them make informed decisions.”

Boston Children’s Hospital and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center both moved up to the top spot on the pediatric diabetes and endocrinology list after being ranked second and third, respectively, in 2022-2023. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the top-ranking hospital for pediatric diabetes and endocrinology in 2022-2023, fell to third in this year’s rankings.

The top six U.S. hospitals for diabetes and endocrinology according to the 2023-2024 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings are:

  • Tied-1. Boston Children’s Hospital, Boston
  • Tied-1. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
  • 2. Texas Children’s Hospital, Houston
  • 3. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
  • 4. Children’s Hospital Colorado, Aurora
  • 5. UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center was ranked No. 1 in the U.S. News & World Report 2023-2024 Best Children’s Hospital Honor Roll for the first time in its history. Boston Children’s Hospital was ranked No. 2, followed by Texas Children’s Hospital at No. 3, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia at No. 4 and Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., at No. 5.

The U.S. News & World Report partnered with RTI International, a North Carolina-based research and consulting firm, to collect and analyze data from 119 children’s hospitals and survey thousands of pediatric specialists to create the rankings. Children’s hospitals awarded a “best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, compliance with established best practices and level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care.
