BOSTON — In this Healio video exclusive, Juan P. Frias, MD, discusses his presentation on  newer treatment options for type 2 diabetes at the Cardiometabolic Health Congress.

Frias, medical director and principal investigator at Velocity Clinical Research in Los Angeles, said that “over the last 2 decades, the philosophy of the management of type 2 diabetes has changed.”

Development of drugs such as SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists has led to moving from a “glucose-centric approach to one where we’re clearly concerned about improving glycemic control, but also about cardiorenal health, about the importance of liver health and reducing liver fat, and improving cardiovascular outcomes” as well as “improving overweight and obesity in our patients with type 2 diabetes,” Frias said.
