SAN DIEGO — In this video exclusive, Jonathan D. Leffert, MD, talks with Nicole C. Wright, PhD, MPH, about health disparities in metabolic bone disease.
Leffert is managing partner at North Texas Endocrine Center and past president of AACE. He is also an Endocrine Today Editorial Board Member. Wright is an epidemiologist and associate professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Osteoporosis is typically thought of as a disease of older white women, but disease burden is large also among men, Black adults and those with certain conditions, such as diabetes and cancers, according to Wright. She discusses social determinants of health and how endocrinologists might recognize these to increase screening and treatment for osteoporosis, including imaging strategies and nutrition.
