VIDEO: Look beyond thyroid for causes of nonspecific symptoms
In this video exclusive, Trevor E. Angell, MD, talks with Jennifer R. Marks, MD, about potential causes of symptoms that patients might attribute to thyroid disfunction.
Angell is assistant professor of clinical medicine in the division of endocrinology and diabetes at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California and associate medical director of the USC Thyroid Diagnostic Center. Marks is a clinician educator and associate professor of medicine at the Keck School of Medicine.
Many patients ask their primary care and internal medicine providers for thyroid testing to explore nonspecific symptoms, such as weight gain, fatigue and constipation. Although these symptoms may stem from thyroid disfunction in some adults, providers should consider other causes, Marks said.
