In this video exclusive, Trevor E. Angell, MD, talks with Caroline T. Nguyen, MD, about the relationship between thyroid autoimmunity and women’s fertility.

Angell and Nguyen are both in the division of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, where Angell is assistant professor of clinical medicine and associate medical director of the USC Thyroid Diagnostic Center, and Nguyen is assistant professor of clinical medicine and obstetrics and gynecology. Nguyen is also an Endocrine Today Editorial Board Member.

Thyroid autoimmunity is the most common autoimmune disorder among reproductive-age women, and the condition has been associated with subfertility and miscarriage. The mechanisms are unclear. Nguyen discusses why she recommends thyroid peroxidase antibody assessment for women who have trouble conceiving.

Nguyen and Angell are speaking on this topic and more as part of Virtual Thyroid! The USC Peter A. Singer Thyroid Symposium is a hybrid meeting taking place on June 4, 2022.
