In this video exclusive, Caroline T. Nguyen, MD, talks with Richard H. Lee, about the utility of fetal ultrasound for women with endocrine disorders.

Nguyen is assistant professor of clinical medicine, obstetrics and gynecology in the division of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. She is also an Endocrine Today Editorial Board Member. Lee is associate professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology and director of the fellowship program in maternal-fetal medicine at the Keck School of Medicine.

Although much is known about using ultrasound to assess fetal risks in women with diabetes, guidelines are less clear about its use for women with other endocrine disorders, such as thyroid disease. Maternal thyroid antibodies and therapies can negatively affect the fetus.

Lee will demonstrate what ultrasound can reveal during his presentation at the USC Jorge H. Mestman Endocrine and Pregnancy Symposium.
