VIDEO: Exciting diabetes research unveiled at ENDO 2019
NEW ORLEANS — In this video exclusive, Dawn Belt Davis, MD, PhD, associate professor in the division of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison recaps some of the exciting diabetes research presented at this year’s Endocrine Society Annual Meeting.
Davis, who serves on the meeting’s steering committee, said members made an effort to include more diabetes content for 2019, from basic science to translational research.
“We have had a lot of interesting content on diabetes this year, which is an expanding area of this meeting,” Davis said. “We are really excited to bring more diabetes content to the general endocrine content that is already here.”
Researchers are presenting findings for several understudied areas this year, including insulin secretion, hormonal signaling from the islet and beta cell survival. The meeting also includes a presentation on new guidelines for older adults with diabetes and research on new therapies, including oral insulin and liraglutide (Victoza, Novo Nordisk) in type 1 diabetes.
