BOSTON — In this video exclusive, Robert Kushner, MD, professor of medicine and medical director of the Center for Lifestyle Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, discusses the management of obesity on a day-to-day basis. As a condition that is “foundational” to cardiometabolic health and the development of diabetes, heart disease and hypertension, obesity requires aggressive and individualized treatment.

Kushner advises detailed assessment of patients with obesity, including a look at weight history as well as physical measurements, such as BMI and waist circumference. The severity of the condition can then be determined and used to identify the appropriate treatment, whether that be by lifestyle management, pharmacotherapy or bariatric surgery.
