Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia ranked top US hospital for pediatric diabetes, endocrinology

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has been named the No. 1 hospital in the country for pediatric diabetes and endocrinology by the U.S. News & World Report 2018-2019 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings.

According to a press release from U.S. News & World Report, the Best Children’s Hospitals methodology measures patient outcomes, including mortality and infection rates, as well as available clinical resources and compliance with best practices.

The list ranked 50 centers in 10 pediatric specialties, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

The top-ranked hospitals for pediatric diabetes and endocrine care in the 2018-2019 report are:

  1. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
  2. Boston Children's Hospital
  3. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
  4. Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC
  5. Children's Hospital Los Angeles
  6. Texas Children's Hospital
  7. Children's Hospital Colorado
  8. Yale New Haven Children's Hospital
  9. Seattle Children's Hospital
  10. Children’s National Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, San Francisco and Oakland

Boston Children’s Hospital topped the Best Children’s Hospitals Honor Roll, which honors institutions that “delivery exceptionally high-quality care across multiple specialties,” according to the release.

“Having a child who is born with or develops a serious illness is one of the most difficult situations a parent can face,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News & World Report, said in the release. “Our Best Children’s Hospitals rankings are designed with parents and young patients in mind. By having access to the most comprehensive data available to supplement guidance from their pediatrician, families are able to make better-informed decisions about where to seek high-quality care for their children.”
