CHICAGO — In this video exclusive, Maria Fleseriu, MD, professor of neurological surgery and professor of medicine in the division of endocrinology, diabetes and clinical nutrition in the School of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University and director of the OHSU Northwest Pituitary Center, reviews research on Cushing’s disease presented at the Endocrine Society Annual Meeting.

“[Cushing’s disease] was found more than 100 years ago ... and we’re still talking almost every year about what’s the right treatment for these patients,” Fleseriu said.

The year researchers discussed genes newly associated with Cushing’s disease and several drugs that are in phase 3 trials. Research must continue into cognitive changes and quality of life for patients in remission, Fleseriu said.
