An annual continuing medical education meeting designed to encourage clinical communication among professionals who manage patients with diabetes, cardiovascular and renal conditions will launch in Philadelphia.

The first Heart in Diabetes conference will highlight findings from recent clinical trials about the causes, development, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and renal conditions affecting patients with prediabetes, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

The 3-day meeting will take place from July 14 to 16 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown. The agenda includes sessions that span the subspecialties from cardiology, lipidology and endocrinology to nephrology and primary care, with an emphasis on the latest guidelines and data from important CV outcomes trials. Healio.com is an official media partner of the conference.

“The recent clinical data from CV outcome trials on the heart and kidney in diabetes requires a comprehensive understanding of its potential impact,” Yehuda Handelsman, MD, FACP, MACE, FNLA, medical director and principal investigator of the Metabolic Institute of America in Tarzana, California, and conference co-chair, said in a press release. “There is a need to align cardiologists, endocrinologists and nephrologists in the development of appropriate management plans guiding specialists and primary care professionals in the care of these very high-risk patients.”

Key topics of the conference will include cardio-renal syndrome, lipid disorders, atherosclerosis, acute coronary syndrome, congestive heart failure, hypoglycemia, arrhythmia, peripheral vascular disease and other related conditions.
