SAN DIEGO — In this video exclusive, Andreas Pfützner, MD, PhD, professor for applied clinical research and CEO of Pfützner Science and Health Institute in Mainz, Germany, describes a noninvasive device that measures tissue glucose at the earlobe.

The GlucoTrack device (Integrity Applications) is designed to measure and monitor tissue glucose in people with type 2 diabetes. After calibration, the device can be used for multiple daily tests for up to 6 months. Because it is noninvasive, patients tend to use it to test frequently, according to Pfützner, potentially improving treatment.

Editor’s Note: The GlucoTrack device measures tissue glucose, not blood glucose, and users must replace ear clip and calibrate the device every 6 months.
