BOSTON — Kenneth Cusi, MD, FACP, FACE, an Endocrine Today Editorial Board member and chief of the division of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the University of Florida in Gainesville, gives his perspective on the presentation, “Innovations in Profiling the Basis for Insulin Resistance.”

Researchers in the session covered the mechanisms involved in fatty liver disease, diabetes and obesity. According to Cusi, they were trying to understand the mechanisms that lead to the problems.

Cusi notes that clinicians should be aware how to screen patients that have a fatty liver and it can be done with liver enzymes, an ultrasound and eventually with consultation from a hepatologist.
