To expand its reach in educating individuals about hypothyroidism, AbbVie has launched the Spanish-language website SigueElGuion.com, according to a news release from the company.

The company aims to boost awareness around the diagnosis and management of hypothyroidism with the site, which features information on symptoms, discusses a potential treatment option and offers tips for speaking with a health care professional.

“Hypothyroidism is a common thyroid condition that can be managed with the right resources and information,” Maria Rivas, MD, vice president of medical affairs, AbbVie, said in the release. “Through ongoing education efforts we hope to increase awareness about hypothyroidism and encourage patients to engage in conversations with their health care provider.”

The website also provides a guide for communicating with a pharmacist to help ensure medication prescribed by doctors is the same that patients receive at the pharmacy.

The launch of SigueElGuion.com is only the most recent effort in the pharmaceutical company’s “Follow the Script” campaign, launched in 2013 and led by Emmy-nominated actress and hypothyroidism patient Sofia Vergara.

The actress shares her personal story on the site, and she encourages people living with the condition to share their own.

“Hypothyroidism is highly personal; however, patients can learn from one another by sharing their stories,” Jordan L. Geller, MD, of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, Vergara’s endocrinologist, said in the release.
