VIDEO: Surge in molluscum contagiosum therapy approvals represents paradigm shift
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — The recent FDA approvals of two treatments for molluscum contagiosum may represent a shift in how clinicians view this disease, according to a speaker at Masters of Pediatric Dermatology.
In an interview with Healio, Mercedes E. Gonzalez, MD, FAAD, medical director of Pediatric Dermatology of Miami and Pediatric Skin Research, discussed the two recently approved treatments for molluscum contagiosum as outlined in her presentation.
After decades of no approved treatments, the surge of new therapies for this indication may signal new sentiments toward this disease.
“I think that eventually this is going to lead to a paradigm shift in the treatment of molluscum where we are now proactively treating or maybe treating earlier rather than letting the molluscum spread on the individual and spread to other friends and family,” she said.
