ORLANDO — A skin cancer diagnosis can be very overwhelming for a patient. Sharing informative materials about treatment options may ease their minds, according to a speaker at the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Annual Meeting.

Often, verbally explaining treatment options can confuse patients as they digest the news of a scary diagnosis such as skin cancer, Anthony Rossi, MD, FAAD, FACMS, assistant attending of dermatologic, Mohs, cosmetic and laser surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and founder of Dr. Rossi Derm MD Skincare, told Healio.

In this video, Rossi discusses two patient decision aids that he created in conjunction with the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

“It’s really important during the encounter that the patient feels listened to and heard,” Rossi said. “A patient decision aid actually allows them to take time, read through it, look at the visuals and come up with really important questions that they might have.”
