The National Psoriasis Foundation has announced the honorees for this year’s Commit to Cure Gala, according to a press release.

At the 2025 Commit to Cure Gala, to be held in New York City on June 18, 2025, the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) will honor Joel M. Gelfand, MD, MSCE, FAAD, James J. Leyden Professor of Clinical Investigation, professor of dermatology and epidemiology at University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and Healio Dermatology’s Chief Medical Editor; Carol Ostrow, MFA, chair of the board of directors at NPF; and Jose U. Scher, MD, the Steve Abramson Associate Professor of Medicine, associate director of research and translational medicine for the division of rheumatology and the director of the Psoriatic Arthritis Center at NYU Langone Health, for their remarkable contributions to the NPF community.

“We are thrilled to honor Carol, Joel and Jose in New York this June,” Leah M. Howard, JD, president and CEO of NPF, said in the release. “Joel and Jose have been instrumental in shaping the landscape of psoriatic disease research, while Carol is our current chair of the board of directors and has been a driving force in our efforts toward a cure with her generosity and leadership.”

Each honoree has dedicated part of their careers to helping improve the lives of patients with psoriasis. Internationally recognized for his expertise in psoriasis, Gelfand has made it his mission, through his research and clinical practice, to improve patient outcomes in not only the skin and joints, but also the comorbidities that commonly burden this population.

“For decades NPF has been at the forefront of advancing education, research and patient care for people living with psoriatic disease,” Gelfand told Healio. “I am deeply humbled to be an honoree at the NPF Commit to Cure Gala.”

In addition to being the current chair of the board of directors at NPF, Ostrow is an Obie and Drama Desk award-winning producer who has devoted her work to many nonprofits.

Scher, who in addition to his positions at NYU Langone Medical Center is also the chair of the NPF Scientific Advisory Committee, has dedicated his research to understanding the progression of psoriasis to psoriatic arthritis.

The gala will be a night of togetherness as well as fundraising for the psoriasis cause. Tickets are available at the NPF’s Commit to Cure Gala website.

“The National Psoriasis Foundation is the largest and most effective dermatology patient advocacy organization in the world,” Gelfand said. “I hope as many of my colleagues as possible will join me in helping NPF meet its mission to cure psoriatic disease and improve the lives of those affected.”
