The Skin of Color Society has released a new educational video series to educate patients, physicians and the general public on dermatologic conditions among individuals with skin of color, according to a press release.

The Skin of Color Society (SOCS) launched this educational initiative following the organization’s 20th Annual Scientific Symposium. The educational platform features videos in which key opinion leaders offer their expertise on dermatologic conditions and how they impact patients with skin of color.

“We are thrilled to share these insightful videos as part of our deep commitment to educating our patients, fellow physicians and the public,” Victoria Barbosa, MD, MPH, FAAD, SOCS president, said in the release. “As dermatologists and SOCS members, we are passionate about promoting excellence in patient care and achieving health equity for all.”

Experts participating in this initiative include Barbosa, Andrew F. Alexis, MD, MPH, vice chair for diversity and inclusion for the department of dermatology and professor of clinical dermatology at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City and immediate past president of the society,Shawn Kwatra, MD, professor and chair of dermatology at University of Maryland School of Medicine and SOCS secretary/treasurer, Janiene Luke, MD, a dermatologist at Loma Linda University Health and SOCS board member and media day co-chair, Nkem Ugonabo, MD, MPH, assistant professor of dermatology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and SOCS media day co-chair, Prince Adotama, MD, assistant professor of the Ronald O. Perelman department of dermatology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and SOCS board member and Nada Elbuluk, MD, MSc, associate professor of clinical dermatology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and SOCS president-elect.

Featured as “Ask the Expert” videos, topics include psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, aging, skin care and sunscreen as it pertains to patients with skin of color. The society has also released new MelanatED videos, which augment the previous 2023 series, and include content on hair styles and health for those with skin of color, treating acne in skin of color and addressing social media misinformation.

According to the release, the SOCS plans to release additional content later in 2024.
