CLEVELAND — For patients with atopic dermatitis, today’s systemic therapies can lead to long-standing on-drug relief, but long-term, off-drug remission remains a goal that has yet to be reached, according to Raj Chovatiya, MD, PhD.

Chovatiya, clinical associate professor at Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University and founder and director of the Center for Medical Dermatology and Immunology Research, discussed the possibility of remission in AD at the Medical Dermatology Therapy Update III meeting.

While research has shown many of the current therapies lead to lasting results, it is unclear if it is true remission or just mechanism of action, he said. But ongoing studies are looking at new drugs that could be a way to have long-lasting off-drug effects as well.
