WAILEA, Hawaii — Research and treatment options for vitiligo have increased exponentially in recent years and promise new developments, according to a speaker at the Maui Derm meeting.

In this Healio video exclusive, John E. Harris, MD, PhD, professor and chair of the department of dermatology at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, summarizes his presentation regarding the newest advancements in vitiligo treatment.

“We’ve been treating vitiligo for thousands of years using light therapy and just in the last 10 years we’ve seen an explosion of new opportunities,” he said.

From the first FDA-approved treatment for vitiligo to research in oral Janus kinase inhibitors and a potential biologic therapy, the options for treating the disease are growing.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg. So much is happening. We are really excited about the new emerging treatments for vitiligo,” Harris said.
